The HDMI Forum has released the latest HDMI 2.1 standard. The new standard increases the transmission bandwidth to 48Gbps, which can support up to 4K@120Hz, 8K@60Hz and even 10K resolution.
Of course, HDMI 2.1 is also backward compatible with older devices. Currently, the latest HDMI 2.0b has a bandwidth of 18Gbps and supports 4K@60Hz, which means that HDMI 2.1 can double the refresh rate at 4K resolution. In addition to the huge bandwidth, HDMI 2.1 will support eARC (object-based audio and advanced audio signal control), wider HDR, and “VRR game mode” (allowing the GPU to change the refresh rate in real time).
Of course, the HDMI Forum only established a standard, and the next thing is what manufacturers need to do. The standard is still being perfected, and it is expected to be officially released in the second quarter of this year. At that time, everyone can buy HDMI-based products in the market. 2.1 line up. However, the processing requirements of 4K@120Hz seem to be difficult to achieve with current graphics cards.
